The purpose of your leadership is the results for which you are striving to reach. For example, a life coach’s purpose is to assist people with balance and a helping hand through tough life circumstances.
Review your definition of success. Review your reason and drive to reach specific goals in your life and that of others.
Establish Leadership Purpose
Now that we know what purpose is, it is time to learn how to create a lasting purpose statement. Sometimes we do get overwhelmed, thrown off track, or question our abilities, but having a leadership purpose statement will keep your purpose at the forefront.
Start with your values, outline your why and the result you want to achieve. Review these examples of purpose statements given by the Harvard Business Review:
Improper Statements:
- Consistently and continually develop and facilitate the growth and development of the self and that of others in achieving high performance.
- Leading new markets department in achieving exceptional business results.
Properly Written Statements:
- Eliminate ‘chaos.’
- Creating brilliance with tenacity.
Put Your Purpose into Action
You must realize that coming up with your purpose statement is not enough. It is only a part of the whole process. Envision the impact that your leadership purpose will have on the world. And for that to happen, you have to put your goal into action.
However, you must be aware that we cannot live our purpose 100%, but with careful planning and zeal to work. You can live out your value in a practical, whole-hearted, and conscious manner.
Measure Your Purpose
Ensure the effectiveness of your purpose by measuring your results. Leadership Empowerment produces results that touch many areas of our lives and that of others.
These results are measured in the corporate world as increased profits, decreased turnover rates, and raised productivity. Results measured in a personal journey are the clarity of decisions made by the individual and the increased rate of completed tasks and goals.
I challenge you to review the purpose (intent) of your passion, style, and direction.
